Crash snarls traffic on I-70 in Hancock County

Traffic is backed up on Interstate 70 following a crash that has closed part of the interstate in Hancock County. All eastbound lanes of I-70 have been closed near Ind. 9 because of the crash reported shortly after 4 p.m., according to the Indiana State Police. Details on the crash remain slim, but police said it involved either or a bus or a van. 

Child dead in church bus crash, driver had suspended license

The driver of the bus, Charles Goodman, 53, was driving the bus on a suspended license and has a warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear in court. Goodman was ejected from the bus and pinned underneath it.

Fifty-three-year-Charles Goodman was lodged in the Hancock County Jail in Greenfield on charges of reckless homicide and driving with a suspended license. Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton says Goodman has admitted falling asleep and witnesses have said the bus was swerving in traffic before the crash. Goodman, 53, of Gary, was driving the bus, a 1999 Ford F-450 Econoline 15-passenger vehicle, that was transporting members of the St. He said test results "indicate a chemical compound in the blood consistent with the use of cocaine." Six-year-old Jacob Williams died in the crash and several others were injured when the bus left the roadway and rolled, striking a tree and catching fire. The new OWI charges, filed Friday, come with a possible minimum sentence of two years and a maximum of 12.
