Ind. Police Chase After Suspect Ends With Car Crash, Stolen Shoes

Alton was taken to Porter Hospital with minor injuries before being transported to Porter County Jail, police said. The drivers of the other vehicles involved in the crash were not injured.

After the crash the release said Alton and his passenger exited the vehicle and ran away into a wooded residential area. The trooper who was following the vehicle requested backup and local police and troopers arrived and caught the passenger. A nearby elementary school was temporarily locked down while troopers searched for Alton.

Ryan M. Alton was speeding in northwest Indiana when a police officer tried to pull him over. Alton refused to stop and instead sped-up, driving recklessly from lane to lane. He then struck the back of another vehicle, and debris from the crash hit a third. Alton fled the scene of the crash on foot, and broke into a resident's garage and stole shoes to replace those he had lost while running. Police found him in a shed at another home nearby. He was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. No one was hurt in the crash.
