Two dead after fatal crash on Guilford Road in Rockford

A Sheriff’s Department reconstruction team is on the scene to determine how the accident occurred, Miceli said.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the female driver was taken to OSF Saint Anthony Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz.

Toxicology tests were performed as is standard procedure.
According to Winnebago County Sheriff’s Sgt. Anthony Miceli, the accident involved a 24-year-old male  driving a red Mazda sports car, identified as Michael Freeman, and a 33-year-old woman driving a Ford Taurus, identified as Chamicwa Black. The Mazda swerved into oncoming traffic in the 5200 block of Guilford Road, striking the Ford. The drivers were the only occupants of each vehicle. Freeman was pronounced dead on the scene, while Black died after being transported to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. The accident is under investigation.
