A preliminary investigation revealed a purple Dodge Caravan was traveling southbound in the far right lane on the expressway at Harlem Avenue when the vehicle collided with a White Ford, forcing the ford to hit a blue Chevrolet Cruze. The Chevrolet Cruze then struck a purple Ford Explorer.

The driver of the Caravan, identified as 22-year-old Griffin Krewer, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 8:38 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
