Stewart soldier was killed in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon on East Oglethorpe Highway. On Tuesday, a Long County man was killed when his vehicle was struck from behind by a woman driving a Ford pickup. Investigators say he drifted into the westbound lane of the highway as he was traveling east, and struck a Dodge Challenger head-on, shortly before 6 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at Liberty Regional Medical Center. He was attempting to make a left turn onto Arnall Drive from Talmadge Road in Walthourville.

Police: Fort Stewart soldier killed in Hinesville wreck

Police say a Fort Stewart soldier died after a head-on wreck Wednesday evening in Hinesville. The soldier was pronounced dead at Liberty Regional Medical Center. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the wreck was taken to Memorial University Medical Center, and information about the extent of his injuries was not immediately available. Wednesday, but police did not initially suspect speed was a factor in the wreck. The 21-year-old soldier was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound on Ga. 38/East Oglethorpe Highway just before 6:10 p.m. when his SUV crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a Dodge Challenger, said Hinesville Police Cpl.

Soldier killed in Hinesville wreck identified

The name of a Fort Stewart solder killed in a head-on collision Wednesday in Hinesville has been released. Officials say 21-year-old Brian Duke of Indiana died in the crash. The wreck happened on East Oglethrope Highway. Officials say Duke drifted into the westbound lane and hit a Dodge Challenger. There is no word on the condition of the driver of the Dodge.
