Washington says the fleeing vehicle “failed to yield” to police late Thursday night and collided with a second vehicle as it approached an intersection on Peachtree Parkway. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were killed.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA. | Authorities say a vehicle fleeing police in suburban Atlanta collided with another vehicle, killing two occupants. Washington says the fleeing vehicle "failed to yield" to police late Thursday night and collided with a second vehicle as it approached an intersection on Peachtree Parkway. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were killed. Washington says the driver of the fleeing car faces DUI, drug charges and vehicular homicide charges. The passenger faces drug and gun charges.

Deon Washington said in a statement Friday that 47-year-old Larry Thomas and 18-year-old Jesse Thomas — both of Tennessee — face multiple charges. Police say Larry Thomas faces charges for drugs, DUI and vehicular homicide. Jesse Thomas also was handed a number of drug charges. Washington says the incident started as a pursuit by Johns Creek police that crossed into Gwinnett County.  When the danger to the public outweighs the police’s interest in catching the suspect, the police officer’s actions should be scrutinized. It requires an analysis of both the officer’s actions and the law enforcement policies and procedures that exist. There will be a lot of evidence available to investigators as they determine whether Officer Goins’ actions complied with department procedure. Under Georgia state law, a law enforcement officer’s pursuit of a fleeing suspect is not considered the legal cause of a collision between the fleeing suspect and another vehicle.

NORCROSS, Ga. (AP) -- Two Tennessee men are jailed in Georgia after allegedly fleeing police and crashing into another vehicle, killing two people. Investigators say Johns Creek police attempted to pull over the Thomas' vehicle but the driver accelerated to more than 80 mph. Records show 47-year-old Larry Thomas and his 18-year-old son Jesse Thomas were being held on multiple charges Saturday in Gwinnett County northeast of Atlanta. Charges against the father and son include multiple drug offenses. The two Polish immigrants lived in Norcross and were retired medical professionals.

A father and son who were arrested after a fatal accident northeast of Atlanta were out on bond for drug charges in Tennessee, according to The Greeneville Sun. In addition to charges in Georgia related to the fatal crash, the newspaper reported that the father and son were out on bond at the time related to drug charges in Greene County, Tennessee. The father and son have a court appearance scheduled in Gwinnett County for Feb. 4. It ended in Gwinnett County, just northeast of Atlanta, when Thomas crashed into the car of 77-year-old Kryzysztof Krawczynski and his 78-year-old wife, Elzbieta, of Norcross. Police say Larry Thomas was behind the wheel, and his son was his passenger, when he led police on a four mile chase.
