Four people killed in MLK crash in Tampa

The crash happened about 9:47 p.m. on MLK near Coconut Palm Drive, east of the Tampa Bypass Canal, the patrol said.

For an unknown reason, Cortes lost control of his vehicle and crossed over the median and collided nearly head-on with a Toyota Sienna, driven by Marianela Murillo, which caught fire. The VW Golf then rotated and collided with a Toyota Scion, driven by Carla Marie Wyman. Debris from the crash hit a BMW 3 series driven by Jamie Javier Ramirez Reye.

Students at Mango Elementary made sympathy cards for the family on Thursday. Meanwhile, their 18-year-old sister, Lina Bernal, and a cousin who was visiting from Colombia, Luisa Louisa, are both fighting for their lives in the hospital. They were also in the van.

Snapchat video shows driver going 115 mph moments before fatal crash

The video, taken from within Cortes' vehicle by passenger Jolie Bartolome, has the car's speed added as text through a Snapchat filter. The first frames show Cortes driving at 82 miles per hour. Another snap has Cortes with a top speed of 115 miles per hour.
