The man was operating the forklift- carrying the heavy steel beam- when suddenly the forklift broke. The beam went backwards onto the forklift cage, and crushed the worker inside.
Steel beam falls, kills Tampa forklift operator
It happened just before 2 a.m. at Infra-Metals at 5208 24 Ave. South. The operator, Ricardo McCalop, 51, was using the forklift to carry a heavy steel beam when it somehow became dislodged, according to detectives.
A forklift operator passed away early Thursday morning after an overnight accident involving a heavy steel beam. It happened shortly after 1 a.m. at a company called Infra-Metals on 24th Avenue in South Tampa.
"Hi just turned 51 years old on the 17th of this month," said his wife Rosie McCalop. "You go through ups and downs. I'm just out of it right now."
