Deadly wrong-way crash on State Road 60
That's when one of the other vehicles noticed the driver and swerved out of the way, but side-swiped the wrong-way driver.
At about 11 p.m., Jonathan Molina was driving a Mazda RX8 on State Road 60 when he was hit head on by a wrong-way driver, Avimael Hernandez-Sargento, 37, who was driving a GMC Sierra. Luis Aneudis Diaz, 34, of Valrico, was driving in front of Molina and avoided being hit head on. Hernandez-Sargento hit the left side of Diaz’s Mitsubishi Gallant before hitting Molina. Post impact, Molina's vehicle then collided with semi truck driven by Ubeline Rivera, 51, of Tampa. Molina, Hernandez-Sargento and Hernandez-Sargento’s passenger, Omar Hernandez, 26, of Lake Worth, were taken to Tampa General Hospital, where Molina died.
Why every fatality from a crash is not legally a wrongful death
After someone dies in a motor-vehicle accident, grieving family members and friends are often left with many questions. What caused the accident? Could it have been avoided? What do they do now that their loved one is gone?
Sometimes a fatal collision happens through no one's fault. Crashes caused by weather and road conditions, or by wildlife in the roadway, are examples. But when a fatal crash is caused by negligence, then family members should pursue a wrongful death claim, to uphold the victim's rights and begin the financial recovery process.
