Palmetto teen killed after being dragged by car

According to his National Collegiate Scouting Association profile, O’Halloran was a two-year starter on the Palmetto High School football team. Listed as a middle linebacker and fullback, he also was on the track team, winning county titles in the discus and shot put.
A Palmetto teen died Thursday afternoon when he was dragged by a car. Police say Kyle O’Halloran became involved in some kind of conflict with passengers in the car and grabbed hold of the Lincoln Town Car as the driver, 20-year-old Roberto Betancourt, tried to drive off in the 1800 block of 14th Avenue West around 5 p.m. Witnesses saw O’Halloran hanging out of the window as the car drove north on 14th Avenue West. Betancourt intentionally accelerated and O’Halloran fell out of the car and died at the scene. Betancourt also failed to stop and render aid and failed to report the incident, and was booked into the Manatee County Jail. He is charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, reckless driving, and driving with no valid driver’s license. It has not been reported what the initial conflict involved.
