3 people survive Jacksonville plane crash in Everglades

WPLG-TV's helicopter was flying to another news event when the pilot spotted the downed plane near U.S. Highway 27 in the Everglades. A small, twin-engine airplane owned by a Jacksonville law firm crashed Monday in the Everglades in western Broward County with three aboard. The airplane is registered to Spohrer and Dodd Aviation LLC at the same address as the Spohrer and Dodd law firm. WPLG's chopper landed briefly and engineer Juan Rodriguez tried to help the pilot escape. Firefighters arrived a short time later and were working to help the pilot.

Small plane crashes in Everglades, 1 injured, officials say - WTOP

Fire rescue officials say a small plane has crashed in the Florida Everglades, and one person is injured. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles says the multi-passenger plane crashed around 12:30 p.m. Monday in southwest Broward County, west of Fort Lauderdale. The person was being airlifted to a hospital in Broward County as a trauma alert.

Three attorneys aboard Jacksonville private plane survive Monday crash near Broward County canal

A private plane owned by a Jacksonville company crashed early Monday afternoon near a canal in western Broward County, according to the County Sheriff’s Office. He had to be pulled up the sloping ditch in a stretcher basket and is listed in critical condition at a local hospital, Jachles said. The other denied being injured, but was treated at a local hospital, Jachles said. An attorney at the Jacksonville law firm of Spohrer & Dodd identified the passengers on board as attorneys Robert Spohrer and Steve Browning, according to Times-Union news partner First Coast News. The twin-engine Piper has eight seats and has been registered to Spohrer and Dodd Aviation since 2009, according to flightaware.com.

Yulee pilot dies after October plane crash in Broward County

James Alexander Townsend was flying a Piper Chieftain plane with the Spohrer & Dodd law firm attorneys on board about 12:30 p.m. Oct. 26 when his plane went down on the eastern edge of the Everglades in western Broward County, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The twin-engine plane ended up in a marshy ditch at the bottom of an embankment, according to Broward sheriff and fire-rescue officials. Rescue crews arriving after a 911 call from one of the passengers found the pilot and wrecked plane down a 30-foot slope. Firefighters had to cut the plane open to free Townsend’s legs before he could be flown to a hospital, according to according to WTVJ TV-6.
