Motorcyclist killed in Putnam County
The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. at Comfort Road and U.S. 17 in Palatka.
A 2001 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Ronald L. Thomas of Palatka was southbound on US 17 at around 10:15 Sunday night when a 2008 Honda motorcycle rear-ended the Blazer. The SUV slid into the grass median and flipped, rolling over several times before coming to a rest. Thomas was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the rollover. He was flown to UF Health Gainesville in serious condition. The motorcycle also overturned several times after the impact, and the rider, Shane Eric Guidry of Palatka, was dead at the scene. Speed was apparently a factor.
Since motorcycle crashes often end in serious injuries, victims need immediate help
Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision. When a motorcycle accident happens, the injured rider needs immediate, appropriate medical care, the accident needs to be investigated, and the insurance companies need to be informed.
When a motorcycle crash is caused by negligence, additional steps need to be taken to protect the legal rights of the injured motorcyclist or the family members of someone killed in a motorcycle crash. Go here to learn more about motorcycle accidents and claims.
