The Toyota came to rest facing north across the westbound lanes of Route 2. The Cadillac came to rest facing northeast on the right shoulder of the eastbound lane of Route 2. The accident is being investigated. Witnesses are asked to contact Trooper Thomas Forbes at Troop E, (860) 848-6500.
The fatal accident happened at 3:40 a.m. at the intersection of Route 2 and the Foxwoods Employee Parking Lot. The driver of a Toyota Corolla driving westbound on Route 2 made an improper turn and crossed into the eastbound lane. The Toyota then collided with a Cadillac Escalade driving eastbound. The driver of the Toyota, 31-year-old Cheryl Venezia, of Whitman, Mass., suffered fatal injuries. The occupants of the Escalade were taken to W.W. Backus Hospital with minor injuries.
