Wrong-way driver causes deadly crash on I-70; eastbound lanes closed at Morrison exit

A pickup traveling westbound on I-70 crossed into eastbound lanes and struck several eastbound vehicles, the CSP said.

The crash involving five vehicles was reported at around 11:30 a.m. in the area east of the overpass of the Hogback Road near the I-70 and Morrison parking lot.

“Your heart breaks, for the family and for the son who had to witness this,” said Dusty Rhodes, who heard the crash and saw the aftermath. “I just heard a big bam,” Rhodes said. “It was huge.”

Colorado State Patrol says a pickup headed west crossed into the eastbound lanes around 11 a.m. before hitting an SUV, spinning around and hitting three more cars.
