The plane, a civilian-owned fighter jet contracted by the Navy, had just finished playing the role of an enemy aircraft in an offshore training exercise and was preparing to land.
A military jet crashed into a field near a naval base in Southern California. the Pilot was killed in the accident at approximately 5:15 p.m. Wednesday near Naval Station Ventura County, which is located near the city of Port Hueneme northwest of Los Angeles. The plane was a Hawker Hunter, a single-seat fighter jet. We will update this report as more information becomes available.
