17-Year-Old Dies One Week After Being Struck By Minivan In San Rafael
Officers determined that the driver, a 69-year-old San Rafael man, had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver’s blood alcohol level at the scene was .02 percent, which is below the legal limit, according to police.
On the evening of June 2, 17-year-old Aura Celeste Machado had been jogging west on the sidewalk of Point San Pedro Road when she entered the roadway to avoid a recently fallen tree. At the same time, a minivan was westbound in the number two lane of Point San Pedro Road. The vehicle struck the teen, and she was brought to a hospital, where she died the following week. The driver, Robert John Gray, 69, stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
