Jamil Brown, 21, killed in single-vehicle collision into tree off of MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland, California

A young man claiming to be the passenger who survived a deadly car accident told NBC Bay Area on Thursday morning that "his seatbelt and God" saved him from the gory crash in Oakland that split the car in two. He says his friend "just lost control" of the car at around 60 mph before being thrown from the car. Video taken at the scene shows the car almost a block up from the original crash site. Wednesday in Oakland on MacArthur Boulevard near High Street at Interstate Highway 580. The accident was reported about 11 p.m.

One person died after a car was sheared in half during a crash in Oakland. The crash took place just before midnight near MacArthur Boulevard and Maybelle Avenue.The other half of the car was almost a block away. It's not clear what caused the crash.

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — A 21-year-old Fairfield man died and a 20-year-old Oakland man suffered serious injuries in a crash late Wednesday in Oakland, police said. The Oakland man was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, police said. When officers arrived, they found Brown unresponsive and the Oakland man with serious injuries. The crash is under investigation and police are asking anyone with information about it to call the Oakland Police Department’s traffic investigation unit at (510) 777-8570. The force of the impact with the tree was so great that it split the Acura sedan in half.
