Man dies in logging accident west of Healdsburg

A man died in a logging accident near nightfall Wednesday west of Healdsburg, authorities said. The accident happened while the man was on a hillside about 50 feet below a logging road, Montanye said. The man, whose identity was not immediately available, was cutting a felled tree into pieces -- a process called bucking -- when the accident occurred, said Healdsburg Fire Capt. The tree was about 112 feet tall, Montanye said, and the section that crushed the man was about 40 feet long. Montanye said he was believed to be local, and around 60, but those details could not be confirmed.

Man killed in logging accident west of Healdsburg identified

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man killed in a logging accident on Wednesday in the Healdsburg area. The incident occurred on a steep, heavily wooded hillside about 50 feet below a logging road, Fire Capt. The Coroner’s Office will schedule a forensic pathologist to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Mohr’s death, Focha said. He was identified as Alan Eugene Mohr, 61, of Point Arena in Mendocino County, Sgt. Mohr’s family was located and informed of his death, she said.
