Suspected DUI driver in crash that killed 4 near Gilroy arraigned
Anthony James Imbronone III, of Gilroy, was arraigned today in Santa Clara County Superior Court in Morgan Hill on four felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and four felony counts of felony DUI causing injury, Supervising Deputy District Attorney Steve Lowney said. If convicted, he faces up to 22 years and eight months in prison, Lowney said.
It is believed that 23-year-old Anthony Imbronone III was under the influence of alcohol when he failed to negotiate a curve to the right on Leavesley Road and went off of the left side, where his vehicle plummeted down a 20-foot ravine. Despite the use of seat belts, four passengers in the vehicle were found dead at the scene. They have been identified as Christopher High School senior Sara Jean Williams, 18, another 18-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man, and a female passenger believed to be younger than 18. Imbronone sustained major injuries and was arrested on suspicion of DUI, before he was airlifted to the hospital for treatment. We will add the names of the other victims as they are released to the public.
