Police are looking for an SUV that struck and killed an 89-year-old man in San Ysidro Saturday afternoon and then fled the scene.

The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Cottonwood Road, near Beyer Boulevard. According to Officer David Stafford, a San Diego police spokesman, the victim was struck in the street.
He was taken by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he died. His name was not released. Police initially said the victim was 74, but later corrected his age to 89.
Police are searching for a red or maroon colored SUV hatchback, possibly a Range Rover or Land Rover. The vehicle was last seen driving south on Cottonwood Road. Witnesses described the driver as a Hispanic man with black hair.
The exact details of the crash were not immediately confirmed. Detectives are investigating.
