9 workers hurt in partial bridge collapse in California

CORONA, Calif. (AP) — Nine construction workers were injured — three critically — after a partial bridge collapse at a Southern California freeway on-ramp, authorities said. The bridge deck suddenly dropped about 16 inches, striking wooden support beams, which hit the workers, officials said. The injured workers are affiliated with the prime contractor Atkinson Walsh Construction Joint Venture, the transportation commission said. All nine injured workers were hospitalized. The bridge deck was being lowered into place Friday night along State Route 91 in Corona when something went wrong during the jacking operation, according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

Father of 2 Sons Remains Hospitalized After Bridge Collapse

On Friday night, Boyd was one of the nine workers injured after a partial bridge collapse on the 91 freeway. Up to 10 workers were hurt in a partial bridge collapse on the 91 Freeway in Corona. Friends and family on Monday held a close watch on a 33-year-old father of two who was seriously hurt in a bridge accident while wondering what prompted the accident. Kendra Santos described Jarell Boyd, her boyfriend of 11 years, as a caring father of two boys. The state Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) is investigating the cause of the collapse.
