Suspected Street Racer, 23, Booked on Murder Charge After Deadly Crash in Hawthorne: Police

Hawthorne police on Friday arrested a suspected street racer in connection with a crash that killed a 35-year-old man. Alfredo Perez Davila, 23, was driving a silver Chevrolet Cobalt just before 1 p.m. on Friday when he began racing a red Chevrolet Camaro northbound in the 13100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, the Hawthorne Police Department said. During the race, Davila lost control of the Cobalt and swerved across several lanes of traffic before striking the center median and becoming airborne into southbound lanes of traffic, police said.

The second street racer driving a Chevrolet Camaro, who police said fled northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard, was being sought. A suspected street racer was arrested Friday in connection with a crash that killed a 36-year-old man in Hawthorne, and now a second driver is being sought, police said. Officers responded to reports of a major traffic collision involving a Chevrolet Cobalt and a Honda CRV just before 1 p.m. Friday in the 13100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, according to the Hawthorne Police Department. Second Driver Surrenders in Fatal Street Racing Crash That Killed San Pedro Musician

A second driver being sought in a deadly street racing crash in Hawthorne that killed a popular music teacher turned himself in Tuesday, police announced Thursday. Anthony Leon Holley and Alfredo Perez Davila were accused of speeding down Crenshaw Boulevard in a street race that ultimately ended in a crash that killed Benjamin Golbin, 36, of San Pedro, according to police. Davila — aka Alfredo Davila Perez — of Hawthorne was charged Tuesday with one count each of murder and vehicular manslaughter in the Jan. 15 crash, the DA’s office said. Davila was arrested at the scene of the crash and faces up to 15 years to life in state prison. The popular musician and music teacher was killed instantly, police said.

Second Driver Charged With Murder in Hawthorne Street Racing Crash That Killed Music Teacher

Davila — aka Alfredo Davila Perez — was charged by the DA’s office on Tuesday with murder and vehicular manslaughter. A second driver was charged with murder on Friday for his role in a daytime street racing crash in Hawthorne that claimed the life of a music teacher, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Holley, meanwhile, was scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Friday, according to the DA’s office. The DA’s office filed a felony count of engaging in a speed contest on a highway causing injury against Davila on Friday, according to the release. The deadly crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Jan. 15 when Holley and Alfredo Perez Davila were allegedly racing on Crenshaw Boulevard near 135th Street, authorities said.

Driver booked for murder in fatal Hawthorne collision; San Pedro man killed identified

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. He later was identified as San Pedro resident Benjamin Golbin, 36, said coroner’s Lt. Dave Smith.
