A car crash in the City of Commerce killed 3 people and critically injured 2 others early Saturday morning during a street race, authorities said. The intersection where the crash occurred is a popular spot where street racers gather, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The crash was reported around 1 a.m. at the intersection of South Malt Avenue and Telegraph Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene and two people were transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Deputies said dozens of vehicles were at the scene of the race, possibly more than 100 vehicles.

The Los Angeles Times reports the crash occurred early Saturday on South Malt Street in Commerce. Officials say the crash remains under investigation. Robert Medrano says three people died at the scene and two others were rushed to a hospital in critical condition. All five were male.
