The collision occurred at 5:20 p.m. Sunday at Winter Street and North Evergreen Avenue, leaving Sister Raquel Diaz of the neighboring Church of Assumption severely injured. A vehicle traveling southbound on Evergreen hit Diaz and continued southbound, not stopping to help the nun, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. The vehicle that struck her was described only as a black truck. No description of the driver was available, police said. Police said Diaz is the director of religious education at Church of Assumption, located on Blanchard Street next to the site where she was struck. She has been a nun for more than 50 years, according to the LAPD release.
