3 die in head-on accident on Highway 70

A Nissan pickup was traveling north on the highway when it first crossed into the southbound lane and sideswiped an SUV, Sanders said.

The northbound pickup continued traveling into oncoming traffic and crashed head on into a red car that was traveling south, he said.

A white SUV traveling south then broadsided the red car and came to a rest in a ditch west of the highway.

3 dead identified, details released on Highway 70 wreck

Gabriel Rivera-Palomares, 33, of Corning; Juan Mendoza, 31, of Olivehurst; and Jesus Favela-Carrasco, 21, of Olivehurst, died in a crash that also severely injured another driver.

Lambert said investigators will prepare a report and submit it to the Butte County District Attorney’s Office for “review and prosecution,” though it’s unknown when the report could be submitted or what, if any, charges could be recommended.
