15-year-old Erin Mathenia of Park Hills died after she attempted to make a left turn off a private driveway onto southbound Highway 21, driving her Dodge Neon into the path of a 2008 Sterling dump truck being driven by 36-year-old David Crisp of Farmington.
None of the cars occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and all were ejected from the vehicle. Middleton was taken to Memorial University Medical Center by ambulance and Topkins was airlifted to Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Two people, including a wrong-way driver, were killed in a head-on collision in Jefferson County on Tuesday. According to police, a driver exited Highway M and got on southbound Highway 21 going north.
