2 Good Samaritans killed changing tire
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash. So far no charges have been filed.
Two men were killed while changing a tire Wednesday morning at mile marker 72 on westbound Interstate 70 in Garfield County near Parachute. A 2002 Ford F250 pick-up pulling a cattle hauler was on the right shoulder of the highway due to a flat tire. Another vehicle with David Moore Jr.,19, of Clifton and Timothy Randall, 30, of Grand Junction stopped to assist, and the men were on the left side of the trailer changing the tire when they were struck by a box truck. Both men died at the scene of the crash. The truck driver, Derek Thompson, 30, of Grand Junction was not hurt. He immediately pulled over and is cooperating with accident investigators.
